of this fact and of the short time which had elapsed since

the last Conference he suggested that they should not present

a formal report on this occasion. The Chairman had, however,

drafted a letter which he proposed to send to the

representatives of His Majesty's Governments on the Commit tee

giving the reasons why a report was not being submitted on

this occasion, and indicating that, if called upon to do so,

the Committee would be prepared to investigate at short notice

any question which might be referred to them during the sitting

of the Conference. The letter was read, slightly amended and

agreed.

10. Hong Kong Harbour.

The Chairman stated that, in connection with the proposals

for the further dredging of Hong Kong Harbour, (Document

Hong Kong (1932) No.1), he had received a letter from the

Hon. Alexander Shaw informing him that Mr. C.G.S. Mackie, the

principal partner in Hong Kong of Messrs. Mackinnon, Mackenzie

and Company who was also a member of the Advisory Committee on

harbour developments to the Government of Hong Kong, was in

this country and would be prepared to place his views before

the Committee. It was agreed that Mr. Mackie should be

invited to give evidence before the Committee at their next

meeting.

The evidence of Mr. Adam Anderson, the engineer in charge

of port development in Hong kong, was then taken.

At the conclusion of Er. Anderson's evidence Sir Leopold

Savile intimated that the Admiralty had under consideration

certain dredging to the north of the area covered by the scheme now before the Committee, and might consequently like to

participate in the scheme, if adopted, and to contribute

towards the cost. Sir Leopold promised to furnish the Committee

with particulars of the area which they desired should be

dredged for Admiralty purposes.
